Vanesa Krongold was born in Buenos Aires in 1988. She is a fashion design instructor and has been working as the designer behind her own brand since 2012. She studied Fashion and Textile Design, as well as Fashion Production, at the University of Palermo from 2006 to 2010.

In this new edition of Creative and Crafts, the Argentine designer shares her vision of what inspires and drives her work. With a warm smile and a nostalgic look, she comments: “A project often starts from a particular technique, from an inspiration that could be a photo, a memory, or a conversation with a stranger on the street.”  For her, each project changes and transforms depending on the personal moment she is going through, the context, and her mood.

The designer believes that the contrast between hyper-technological and super-artisanal is what gives life and freshness to her work. “I think that the newness is in that contrast. For me, what’s most interesting is the contrast between the hyper-technological and the super-artisanal,” she explains, pointing out that this balance between the most advanced and the most traditional is fundamental to her creativity. Every project, in general, is a new challenge.  “Each project starts one way and ends another. The cliché of trusting the process is great,” she says, reflecting her experimental approach and openness to surprises.

She speaks with love about her clients, with whom she feels a deep connection that goes beyond the aesthetic. “I love my clients, I feel like they connect with me from a very deep place that has to do with their tastes in music, what they like to eat, the drink they order at night, the music they listen to when walking down the street, the book they’re reading ” she says, adding that this cultural connection is key in her creative process.  Her project embodies the spirit of its neighborhood — She seeks out every connection that keeps us grounded, she emphasizes, underscoring the local and collaborative nature of her approach.

The brand she has created is shaped with care—almost like a family. At the heart of her creative process is a commitment to sustainability: “We focus on small-scale production, eliminate fabric waste, and ensure each piece finds its ideal home or the perfect client,' she explains.

Another fascinating aspect for the designer is the reaction of different markets to her clothing. “It’s also very interesting to see the different reactions my clothes get in different markets, whether in Korea, where I was in 2019, in Italy, New York, or Berlin. Every audience always reacts in a different way—sometimes it’s like ‘this seems really new,’ or ‘actually, I saw this 10 years ago.’ It’s all very interesting, and I always learn a lot from exchanging with other markets. It’s very important,” she says.

Regarding collaborations, the designer mentions Lazaro, with whom she has had a deep connection for many years. “I’ve known Lazaro for a long time, I remember some things from my mom in the 90s, like a Lázaro handbag. From that place, I love it. I think my brand, like Lazaro’s, holds a lot of those memories, and I think that mix is what makes them have something in common.” According to Vanesa, with a passionate look, every project starts differently, “sometimes it starts from a particular technique,” and that process is always evolving. “My project always starts one way and ends another, as if the project can never really be known until the end.”
